The Sweater Curse, or The Curse of the Love Sweater, is infamous amongst knitters. The term describes the situation whereby a knitter will decide to knit a sweatshirt for their significant other, only for the relationship to break down very shortly after, or sometimes even before, the garment is completed.
Many knitters, in both online communities and 'real-world' knitting groups, claim to have experienced The Sweater Curse. Through my research, I would like to determine whether or not this mystical phenomenon has identifiable (and avoidable) causes. My question is:
Can the effects of 'The Sweater Curse' be explained?
