Laura and I got home from our petit holiday last Sunday, returning to jolly England slightly tanned and somewhat bruised from our numerous escapades. I had a brilliant time and met some very nice folk, who I’m continuing to bother via Facebook (where else?).
We spent our week on Rhodes sunning ourselves, jaunting to the beach, napping in the shade and getting ready to go out. Despite our late nights of crazy inferno disco dancing (I’m kidding. Actually, no, I’m not) we were almost always the first people up and about in our apartment block in the mornings and had the entire pool area to ourselves until lunchtime each day.

I took another week off last week. I spent most of my time lounging luxuriously, watching Dexter, eating things I shouldn’t, and doing very little exercise. So, despite performing the modern miracle of coming home from a holiday weighing less than when I left, I’m pretty sure I’ve undone all that good work and will have to get out on my bike again. Moan moan moan!
On the plus side, I’ve finally started knitting up the two cones of pure silk DK I bought from Colourmart last December. It’s a beautiful electric blue sort of colour, and after browsing for a suitable pattern for longer than I care to think about I’ve finally plumped for the plain-and-simple Silk Shrug from Erika Knight’s Classic Knits. The patterns in this book are really nice, simple and, as the title suggests, classic: simple stocking stitch and ribbing, no mad colourwork or lace patterns so the garments won’t date. The pattern is easy to follow and the whole fandango is going steamingly well. Not one to follow convention, I started with the sleeves and am now working my way backwards, aiming to finish with knitting the back.
That was the plan, anyway. I was knitting my way up the right front last night and I’ve completed the armhole shaping. Unfortunately, the pattern now reads “Cont straight in St st until the armhole shaping matches the back”. Since I haven’t yet knitted the back, methinks I’ll have to slip my front piece onto a big ol’ stitch holder and do everything in the proper order. Sigh.
I’ve also been thinking about a new layout for the site. Yes, I’m still going on about it! I did have some ideas when we were on hols, but I kept getting distracted by odd conversations before my ideas could really take hold. For example, one of my favourite quotes from the holiday, declared by Laura when we were innocently bobbing in the sea with our new chum Arron:
“Look! It’s Hulk Hogan on a speedboat!”
In fairness, he really did look like Hulk Hogan. But then, wouldn’t anyone, in a bandana?
Anyway, I’ve started to knock a bit of a mood-board sort of thing together, with colours and ideas I like the look of. Unfortunately they’re not very cohesive: I flit from desiring floaty girly prettiness, to lusting after acid-coloured chunky florals, then back again via some sort of Flash-animated wet dream, which I will never have the time nor the inclanation to put together. Persevere, dear visitor: perhaps one day I shall have a pretty site that works properly!
Things I Have Learned Today:
- The definition of “quorum”.
- The definition of “pecuniary”.
- That my purple patent slingbacks are too big for me all of a sudden.
